# Ask The Artist: Electronic Beats TV Brings Back Its Cult Q&A Series with Ellen Allien

Ever wanted to ask one of electronic music's most respected figures a real question and actually get an answer? **Telekom Electronic Beats TV** has been doing exactly that for years. Now the channel has brought its cult interview series back. The old name was "Ask The Producer". The new one is "Ask The Artist", and they restarted it with a guest who needs no introduction anywhere techno is played: Ellen Allien.

## What is "Ask The Producer" / "Ask The Artist"?

The idea is simple. Electronic Beats gathers questions from the community on **YouTube and Instagram**, then sits the guest down to answer them on camera, at length. No press-junket soundbites, no filler. Just a producer talking honestly to the people who actually care about the work.

Over the original "Ask The Producer" run, the series turned into a proper learning resource. Guests opened up about the things DJs and producers are always curious about:

How they actually finish tracks in the studio

- The gear, synths and hardware behind their sound
- How they pick records and read a room when they DJ
- Career advice, running a label, and staying afloat in the industry
- The mindset behind a life spent making electronic music

## The relaunch: Ellen Allien answers your questions

For the comeback, Electronic Beats could not have picked better. Filmed in Berlin, the new episode has Ellen Allien working through community questions one at a time, from production to life behind the decks.

Ellen Allien (born Ellen Fraatz) grew up in West Berlin and has been one of techno's defining figures for over twenty years. She started the label **BPitch Control** in 1999 and released her debut album *Stadtkind* in 2001 as a love letter to her city. Since then she has put out a long run of solo albums, made the much-loved *Orchestra of Bubbles* with Apparat, and played clubs and festivals all over the world. DJ, producer, label boss, and a tireless supporter of Berlin's scene. This format was made for someone like her.

## Why DJs and producers should watch

The questions come from the community, so they cover what people genuinely want to know, not whatever a press release is pushing.

- The episodes run long, so guests get room to actually explain themselves instead of dropping three-minute clips.
- You come away understanding how an artist thinks, not just what they put out.
- You can take part. Future episodes are built from questions on YouTube and Instagram, so yours could be next.

## Catch up on the classic "Ask The Producer" episodes

New to the series? The back catalogue is a goldmine. A few worth starting with on the Electronic Beats TV channel:

**KiNK**, a masterclass in live, hands-on, hardware-driven sets

- **Surgeon**, uncompromising Birmingham techno and a sharp mind on improvisation
- **Kenny Larkin**, Detroit royalty who shaped techno across three continents
- **John Tejada**, deep and technical on the craft of production
- **Anthony Rother**, an electro pioneer on machines, melody and aesthetics
