# How to turn a DJ set, album or EP into a video for YouTube, TikTok and Reels

You finished a two-hour set, or a new EP, and you want it on YouTube. The trouble is that YouTube, TikTok and Instagram all want a video, and all you have is an audio file. Most people end up with one still picture over the sound. That works, but it looks like nobody was home.

There is an easier way if you have a DJ profile on DJing.com. Your public page now plays your audio on a turntable deck: the platter spins, the tonearm walks across the record as the set plays, and your name and title sit beside it. Pick a video frame, choose your vinyl and label colours, screen-record it, and you have a video. You don't need editing software or a visualizer subscription, and there is nothing to install.

It works for anything you can put on your profile: a recorded DJ set, a radio show episode, an album preview or an EP teaser.

![The DJing.com turntable deck in three frames: 9:16 with blue vinyl for an EP preview, square with brown vinyl for an album preview, and 16:9 with black vinyl for a DJ set](https://djing.com/img/blog/dj-set-video-podcast-three-formats.webp)

## What you get

- The deck comes in three exact video shapes: 16:9 for YouTube and video podcasts, 9:16 for Shorts, TikTok and Reels, and square for an Instagram post.
- Your name, the title and a running clock sit inside the frame, so they end up in the recording.
- You pick the vinyl and label colours to match your artwork. The print on the label switches between black and white by itself, so it stays readable whatever you choose.
- The record behaves like one. The platter spins up when you press START and slows to a stop when you press it again. On Next set the needle lifts, the arm goes home, the old record slides off and the new one goes on.

## Step 1: put your audio on your profile

Sign in, open your DJ dashboard and go to the **Music** tab. You have two ways in.

### A single set, album or EP

In **Add prerecorded DJ sets**, choose **Audio DJ Set** as the set type, give it a title, choose **DJ Set URL** and paste a link to the audio file. MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV and FLAC all play. A Dropbox share link works too: paste it as Dropbox gives it to you and the page fetches the file behind it. A tracklist is required. For an album or EP that is simply the track list, in order.

The title is what shows on the label and beside the deck, so write it the way you want viewers to read it: "Debut EP Preview" reads better on screen than "ep_master_v7_final".

### A podcast or radio show

If you already publish a show with an RSS feed, use **Add Podcast** on the same tab and paste the feed URL. Your episodes appear on your page and each one plays on the deck. New episodes follow on their own.

## Step 2: open your page and pick a frame

Go to your public page at djing.com/your-name. The deck opens in 16:9 with nothing on the platter yet, just the slipmat. The two keys next to START are the frames:

- **16:9** for YouTube, a video podcast or a livestream replay.
- **9:16** for YouTube Shorts, TikTok and Instagram Reels.
- Press the lit key again to get a **square** frame, for an Instagram or Facebook post.

Each frame is the exact shape of the video, edge to edge, so there is nothing to crop off the sides. The START, frame and Next set keys sit inside it, like the buttons on a real deck, and they show in the video.

## Step 3: choose your colours

Under the deck there are two colour swatches, **Vinyl** and **Label**. Black vinyl with the red label is the default. Pick colours from your cover art and the video and the artwork belong together: a blue record with a yellow label for a summer EP, white on brown for something warmer. Your browser remembers the choice the next time you come back, and **Reset colours** takes you back to black and red.

The swatches sit outside the deck on purpose, so they never end up in your video.

## Step 4: record it

Start recording first, then press START. That way the opening of your video shows the record sliding onto the platter and the needle dropping, which makes a much better first second than a record already turning.

The one thing to get right is sound. Plenty of screen recorders capture the picture and quietly leave the audio out.

- **Mac:** the built-in recorder (Shift, Command, 5) records your screen but not the sound your Mac is playing. Use [OBS Studio](https://obsproject.com), which is free: add a macOS Screen Capture source, pick your browser window, and it records the browser's sound with it.
- **Windows:** the Snipping Tool on an up-to-date Windows 11 records the screen with its sound. The Xbox Game Bar (Windows key, Alt, R) also records your browser window with audio. OBS works here too.
- **iPhone and iPad:** add Screen Recording to Control Centre and start it from there. It records what Safari is playing. Hold the phone upright and use 9:16.
- **Android:** open the screen recorder from Quick Settings and choose to record media sounds before you start.

For the sharpest result on a computer, make the browser window as large as you can and zoom the page (Command or Ctrl and +) until the deck fills it. In OBS you can then crop the source to the deck so the frame fills the whole video.

## Step 5: trim and post

Cut the start and end of the recording and it is ready to upload.

For a Short or a Reel you don't have to start at the beginning. Tap anywhere on the record, or drag the tonearm, and the music jumps there. Put the needle down just before the hook and record from that point.

The recording captures your audio as the browser plays it. If you want the cleanest possible sound, lay your original file under the video in your editor and mute the recorded track. Nobody will see the difference on the deck.

If your page has several sets, Next set swaps the record the way you would by hand, which gives a long recording a natural break between tracks or episodes.

## A word on rights

This is the part people skip. Your own productions, your own label's releases and your own radio show are yours to post. A DJ mix full of other people's tracks is different: YouTube's Content ID will usually claim it. Often that just means the ad money goes to the rights holders, but some labels block their music in certain countries, or worldwide. Instagram and Facebook may mute it. If the set is mostly other people's music, a platform that licenses mixes, like Mixcloud, is the safer home for the full version. Use the video for a short teaser that points there.

## Frequently asked questions

### Is it free?

Yes. The deck is part of every DJ profile on DJing.com, and so are the frames and colours. You only need a screen recorder, and the ones above are free.

### Will there be a watermark?

There is no watermark over your video. The slipmat under the record shows the DJing logo, which you will see before START and between tracks.

### Can I use it for an album or EP preview?

Yes. Add the preview as an audio set with its track list, then pick the frame and colours that match the release. One pattern that works: a 9:16 teaser with the label in the cover's colours a week before release day, then the full 16:9 preview on the day.

### Which audio formats work?

MP3, M4A, AAC, WAV and FLAC, from a direct link or a Dropbox share link. Podcast episodes play straight from your feed.

### What resolution will the video be?

Whatever your screen gives you. The deck is drawn as vectors, so it stays sharp at any size. Recording a full browser window on a typical laptop gives you 1080p or better, and zooming the page in before you record adds detail on a large screen.

### Does it work on a phone?

Yes, and 9:16 on a phone is the quickest way to make a Short or a Reel. Open your page, choose 9:16, start the phone's screen recording, press START.
