# Juno Download Has Closed: Back Up Your Music and Where to Buy Now

After twenty years, one of the original DJ download stores has switched off the lights. [Juno Download](https://www.junodownload.com/) shut down on Monday 1 June 2026, and it did it without warning. There was no closing-down sale, no countdown, no big announcement. People who went to the site found a short goodbye message and a list of other shops to use instead. Some DJs were buying tracks only hours before it went dark.

## What Juno Download was

Juno Download launched in 2006 and sold proper DJ files: DRM-free, in every format, properly licensed, with the artists and labels actually getting paid. It was one of the legitimate stores, and it carried a deep, slightly old-fashioned catalogue full of the stuff the big shops never bothered with. Older releases. Niche genres. Odd bits and pieces that, now the store is gone, might not be buyable anywhere else.

It was never a giant. Even at its peak it was a store for a certain kind of digger rather than the whole DJ world, and plenty of working DJs never touched it. But the people who used it really used it, and for them this one stings.

## Two things to clear up first

Your old purchases are not lost. If you ever bought from Juno Download, you can still log in and download what you already own. If an old order will not download, email them and they can usually sort it out. Do not sit on this. Go and pull everything you bought off the site and back it up properly while you still can.

Second, this is not Juno Records, the vinyl shop. That is a separate company, and has been since 2013. The vinyl side is still trading. Only the download store has closed.

## Why it closed

Juno's reasoning was straightforward. COO Lucas Garcia said streaming has become the dominant way people consume music, and that artists and labels now connect directly with fans through social media and direct-to-fan services like Bandcamp, so the role of the music webstore matters less than it used to.

He has a point. Juno Download was a niche store that quietly got on with its job for a shrinking crowd while the rest of the world moved on. The site never really modernised, and at some stage the numbers stopped adding up. Sad, but that is how these things usually go.

## Where to buy your music now

The obvious answer is [Beatport](https://www.beatport.com/). It is the big one, almost everything you were buying on Juno will be there, and it is where the newest releases and the charts live. Treat it as your safe default. It is not perfect: the site can feel slow, the search is weak, and you pay more for lossless formats. But for most DJs it is the place to start.

The more interesting option is [Volumo](https://volumo.com/). It is newer and smaller, and it sits closer in spirit to what Juno was. You buy a track, pick your format, and you can come back and download the other formats later for nothing. That alone fixes the biggest gripe a lot of people have with Beatport, so it is worth a look.

Then there is [Bandcamp](https://bandcamp.com/), and this is the one worth sitting with. It is not just a shop. You can follow the producers you like, keep up with what they are releasing, and buy straight from them, and the artists keep far more of the money than a store like Juno ever passed on. If Juno's own boss is right that the gap between fans and artists is closing, Bandcamp is the clearest sign of where things are heading.

## The takeaway

If you were a Juno Download customer, do three things this week. Log in and back up every track you bought. Set Beatport as your default for new music. Give Volumo a try, and spend a bit more time on Bandcamp getting closer to the artists you actually care about.

Twenty years is a good run for any store. Back up what you own, and keep digging.
